In-school maths tutoring

Maths is a vital area of all children’s learning and we provide a positive experience for those children who are feeling less than confident with their maths. Thinking Caps for Kids Maths Tutoring follows the New Zealand curriculum; building children’s number knowledge and basic facts recall, as well as developing efficient strategies to solve mathematical problems. Children are tutored in small groups, ensuring individual attention along with the ability to discuss their thinking in a small group, as they do in class. Children are grouped according to their numeracy stage and work on activities that will improve their number knowledge and strategy thinking.

We work on Maths with children in Years 3-6 (plus Years 7 & 8 at some schools)

Lessons are for 45 minutes, once a week.

Your child is taught in a small group by one of our teachers, in a specified area of the school, usually a withdrawal room or spare classroom.

After your child has been assessed by us, the lesson each week is based on your child’s current stage/s in Maths and includes basic facts, essential number knowledge and strategies, all aligning with the National Standards and what your child is learning in their classroom.

You have the opportunity to closely track your child’s learning which is recorded in their own Thinking Caps exercise book, brought home each week. Along with specific feedback written in the book on how your child is doing, there may be suggestions for practice at home – we use this book as a form of communication with you during the term. In the last week of each term we email you with detailed feedback on your child’s progress and next steps.

In-school tutoring is $32.00 for 45 minutes.
